Deneholme has recently received a 'Silver' Green
Tourism award, one of only 500 establishments in the United Kingdom
and our facilities will be of particular interest to those groups that
share our commitment to community leadership, environmental responsibility
and sustainability. When placing a booking with us you can be confident
that your contribution will be supporting community led regeneration in
the North Pennines with all profits being reinvested back in to the local
community - providing local jobs, protecting the local environment and
supporting the local community.
Underpinning our restoration of Deneholme has been a series of renewable
energy measures that include:
- The installation
of a ground source (geothermal) heat pump providing environmentally
sustainable central heating.
- Hot water
is provided by means of solar panels and we also make use of 'passive
solar gain' by means of a glazed sunroom.
- Wood stove
which is fuelled by timber harvested under conservation woodland management
programmes.
- Rainwater
is harvested and used to flush the toilets.
- Sheep
fleece insulation by locally farmed Herdwick sheep.
